Legacy, Laughter & Life

Every life has a story worth telling - and some are too good not to share.

Sometimes it’s messy.

Sometimes it’s curvy.

But every life is a legacy worth remembering.

In this space, I share moments that matter—from veterans with stories that’ll stop you in your tracks, to my own walk with my dad, to the quiet wisdom I pick up in living rooms, front porches, and parking lots.

Some stories are funny. Some are heavy. Some are still unfolding.

But every one of them reminds me why this work matters—and why people do, too.

This is legacy, laughter, and life… as I see it.

Beyond the Storm, Part 1: From Bullied Teen to Navy Hero

Have you ever heard someone's story and wondered how they're still standing?

Ed "Doc" Golden is one of those people. At 17, he left behind the bullies who tormented him and joined the Navy — chasing purpose and escape from a difficult home. But life had bigger storms coming — both on sea and land.

He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis, stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the day JFK was assassinated. As a Communications Center Supervisor, Doc had to deliver the shocking news to his captain — who nearly threw him in the brig, thinking it was a joke.

In 1968, a hurricane struck near Guantanamo Bay. His ship endured three relentless days and nights of 60-foot waves and radio silence. But Doc, trained in communications, found a way. His emergency signal reached Northern Ireland — and ultimately, the U.S. Navy.

“That hurricane was the scariest thing I’ve ever survived,” Doc said. But another storm — waiting back home — would test him even more.

➡️ Stay tuned for Part 2: “The Hurricane at Home” — when Doc’s life changed overnight, and fatherhood called.
